BEEEEEEFCAKE!

There are no words.

......
Actually, that's a lie. I could blog about a Beefcake Cartman figure for quite some time. However, I will spare you and just give you the essential info.......

  • The figure was produced by Mezco Toys

  • It is being sold exclusively by Wizard (Here)

  • Only 3000 figures were produced

  • The factory sample of this figure (aka the first one ever produced) is being auctioned off on ebay (Here)

  • The ebay auction kicked off today and runs for one week

This figure is definitely in the running for best action figure ever behind my mint condition carded Badrock...........What're you lookin' at?

The Punisher Gets Punished?

Well, apparently Frank Castle is in for a hurtin'.

Check out a preview of the Punisher Max Annual, written by Entourage's Mike Benson below. The word from Marvel is that this time, Frank Castle might be the one getting punished.........

Spins a web any size, catches thieves just like flies, blah blah blah, and he draws a really awesome Captain America.

Check out his cover, and then the pencils of his cover for Captain America: The Chosen #2. Bear in mind, this is a variant cover so to snag one for yourself it might cost you a bit more money.

I snagged these images from Mitch Breitweiser's (the guy who draws the interior art for the Captain America: The Chosen mini series) blog, so make sure to go over there and check out all of Mitch's awesome artwork, and then be sure to buy Captain America: The Chosen #1 (in stores on Thursday).

Pfeifer Power Activate!

Ah, the first blog entry title that doesn't end in.............

Bold new direction people, bold new direction.

Something quite interesting has come to my attention today. Will Pfeifer, writer of such comics as Catwoman and HERO is being torn to pieces on the net after the last issue of the Amazons Attack mini series shipped (which he wrote). Let me say something here real quick: I didn't really enjoy the mini series that much. There, now that that's done, let me say something more important.......

The responses that Pfeifer has gotten on his blog have been nothing less than despicable. Apparently, Pfeifer has destroyed/raped/pillaged/blown up the character of Wonder Woman. Check out this response from a guy who calls himself Walter.......

Walter said...

Mr. Pfeifer.....
I wrote some posts in your blog before. Now, after issue 6, I can say it without doubt:

"Amazons Attack" is the most damaging, worst Wonder Woman story ever.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was just a bad story, we are used to that, but I don't think you are even aware about how much damage you did to the character.

Believe me, it's not just me talking, you basically enraged the WW "community", to call it something.

Have a look for yourself, don't be shy

Bravo Walter. You can sit behind your computer screen at home and bash Mr. Pfeifer. You are obviously a wonderful comic book writer yourself, and you most definitely could have fixed this editorial mandated story.

Here's the deal folks. This story wasn't bad because of Will Pfeifer or Pete Woods, or any other part of the creative team.

DC Comics stuck these guys with this story, and they basically had to ride out the storm. Was it a disappointing story? I think so, yes. Was it Will Pfeifer's fault. Hell no! Pfeifer has proven time and again that he is a very good writer, and this one stinker which was thrust on him by Dan Didio shouldn't be used against him.

Go read Pfeifer's Catwoman issues, or his HERO stuff if you want to see what this guy can do.

You want to criticize the story? Go ahead. But if you actually plan on being stupid enough to bash Pfeifer, than at least use your full name. Own up to the crap you're slinging.

That is all.

Oh how things have changed........

Six months ago, if I was presented with Diamond's Shipping List for this week, (found here) you want to know what I would have been the most hyped for? Well, it certainly wouldn't have been Y: The Last Man #58.

Thankfully things have changed, and I have seen the light. This is pretty much it for this series, so what routes does Brian K. Vaughan have? He could go one of three ways for the ending.........

The Disney Movie AKA "Everyone's happy and people start spouting rainbows out of their orifices."

I kind of hope against this option. After having gone through sixty issues and seeing Yorick, 355, and many others cheat death, it would almost seem too telegraphed. BKV is too good of a writer to give us the vanilla ending in my opinion. But hey, it's still an option.

The Romeo and Juliet

I personally like this one. Since I fully support the idea that life isn't fair, I think it would be fitting if now that Yorick has finally gotten to where he's wanted to be, that he bites it. Maybe Beth too. Yeah, after what she pulled I think she needs to get taken care of.........at least for the sake of being dramatic.

The Sopranos

I pray that BKV doesn't do this. I'd take the Disney ending rather than a non ending. This is a very scary possibility for me, and I have a suspicion that the ending might pull something along these lines. Kill Yorick, or make everyone hug and ride off into the sunset. Anything but this.

The 60th issue is still a ways off, but seeing the 58th on the shipping list got me on my soapbox.

Overall, this is a pretty big week for comics not coming from Marvel and DC (Vertigo doesn't count as DC, get over it). Not only does Y hit shelves, but Buffy #6 (another BKV product I believe), The Boys #10, and Lobster Johnson the Iron Prometheus #1 ship! Unfortunately, money is tight enough that I'm only probably buying two of those books, but hey, that's what trades are for.

DC has nothing too astonishing. Only Infinity Inc. #1 caught my interest, and that's merely because anything springing from 52 has my ringing endorsement.

Marvel on the other hand has a couple promising books. One being Captain America: The Chosen which is drawn beautifully, and written by the guy who brought you Rambo. Another would be One More Day, which is finally kicking off (it really should be titled Back In Black pt. 6), and besides the art being completely awesome, there might be some big changes going on in the life of Peter Parker (hinty hint hinteroo). The final book to watch is Hulk #110. Hulk smash, me buy.

That's all I got. I say good day true believers.

Lounging in The Gutters........

Welcome to the least popular and shortest running comics column on the interwebs. In its' various forms, Lounging In The Gutters has covered rumors and gossip in the comics industry for thirteen long glorious and quite mundane minutes.

All stories are sourced from unreliable individuals and checked with random publisher representatives before publication. The veracity of each story is judged by me and given a spotlight - Green is like saying "There's no chance in hell", Amber means "WTF Dude?", and Red means that I completely made it all up because I'm evil. Lounging In The Gutters is for my entertainment, and there is a good chance that by reading this column you will actually make the world a worse place to live in. Cheers.

Cage Match: Quesada Vs. Deodato Jr.!?!?!?!

Joe Quesada's original (note Luke Cage on the left)........

Mike Deodato's Luke Cage in the middle top........

You have to have some pretty big Wakandans to swipe the EiC of Marvel Comics!

Oh, and this just in........
Deodato's Norman Osborn in the Thunderbolts

The Real Life Tommy Lee Jones (fully pose able and he even comes with a cowboy hat!)

Hal, I am your Fasha!!!!!!

Word on the street is that when Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver re-team for their third Green Lantern story, which they are playfully calling "their Return of the Jedi," there might be some more similarities to the final part of the Star Wars trilogy than just sequence in a series. Whispers are bubbling up and suggesting that a certain purple, mustache twirling bad guy might be making the ultimate sacrifice and/or be turning back to the good side.

John Byrne and.........Mike Deodato?!?!?!?!

Mike Deodato (On the right) makes yet another appearance as he's seen fraternizing with the bad boy.....well, better make that bad old man of comics: John Byrne.

Holy Bat Shark Repellent! Something here is fishy. Until next time, to the intern cave!

A Round House Kick to the Head........

I'm bloggin' about comics and I'm watching a comic book cartoon (JLU!). Just give me a bowl of Batman movie cereal and my favorite Super Friends blankie and I'll be set.

I have a couple cool previews to show you first, so let's break those out.

Iron Fist Annual #1, where you're going to get more martial arts action than in a whole Chuck Norris round house kick to the head.........
....

....
Yep, not only do you get awesome Howard Chaykin art, but Jelena Djurdjevic (relative of Marco) does some interior artwork as well.

So, if I told you that Brian (Ms. Marvel, New Avengers Illuminati) Reed is starting up a new spy book at Image comics, what would you say? Well, I don't care what you say, all I know is that I'm there. Here's the cover from the first issue that hits stores on November 14th.........

Oh and before I forget, Marvel Comics Presents is back, and there might be some potential in this title. Maybe not for the long term, but for the first couple issues or so this is the comic to be buying. There's gonna be some killer art by Stuart Immonen, Clayton Henry, and many others. Plus, the stories might not be half bad either. So check out a preview image of each of the upcoming stories that will be featured in the book, and try and shield your eyes from the J. Scott Campbell cover (seriously, his art is usually good!?!?!?!).........

That's all for the previews for right now, so what else do I have for you?

Huh, well not a whole lot. I guess if I had to leave you with something, it would be that the first issue of the One More Day storyline in Amazing Spider-Man was excellent, and stuff happens.............stuff

How's that for cryptic?
